How to convert a YouTube video to MP4

  1. Copy the link. In the YouTube app tap Share, then Copy link. On a computer, copy the address bar.
  2. Paste it above. MP4 at 720p is already selected, so conversion starts on its own. Pick 1080p or 360p first if you want.
  3. Tap Download. The MP4 saves with the video’s title and channel written into it.

Measured on our server in October 2026 with a 3½-minute music video. The size grows with the length: about 24 MB a minute at 1080p, 8.5 MB at 720p and 3.4 MB at 360p. If the upload is smaller than what you pick, you get the largest size it has, and the note under the Download button says which.

Why the MP4 plays everywhere

YouTube keeps each video in several versions, and at most sizes it has AV1 or VP9 copies next to the H.264 one. ezmp3 takes the H.264 video and YouTube’s AAC audio and copies both into the MP4 without re-encoding, so the picture is exactly what YouTube streams and the file plays on every iPhone, Android phone, Windows PC, Mac and smart TV.

That is also why ezmp3 stops at 1080p. YouTube serves 1440p and 4K only as VP9 or AV1, which many phones, PCs and TVs can’t play from an MP4 file.

How long can the video be?

Up to 20 minutes at 1080p, an hour at 720p and 90 minutes at 360p. The limits keep one file under about 500 MB. Want only the sound? MP3 and M4A go up to 90 minutes at a few megabytes per song.

Is ezmp3 safe to use?

There is nothing to install and nothing to sign up for. The page shows no ads, opens no pop-ups or new tabs, and has one download button: the one that appears when your file is ready. What you download is a plain MP4 with the video’s title and channel inside.

Can I download in 4K?

No, 1080p is the largest. YouTube only has 1440p and 4K as VP9 or AV1 video, which many devices can’t play from an MP4.

Does the MP4 have sound?

Yes. YouTube’s AAC audio is copied into the file along with the picture.

I chose 1080p but got 720p. Why?

The video was uploaded at 720p, so that is the largest version YouTube has. ezmp3 gives you the largest size up to the one you pick.

Does it work on iPhone and Android?

Yes, in the browser. On iPhone, Safari saves the MP4 to Files › Downloads; open it and tap Share, then Save Video, to put it in Photos. On Android it goes to your Downloads folder.

How long is my file kept?

Six hours. After that it is deleted from our server and the download link stops working.

Is it legal to download YouTube videos?

It depends on the video and where you live. Download only what you have the right to keep: your own uploads, videos under a free licence, or content the owner allows you to download.
